One of the most important jobs of the QEA is to negotiate your contract or collective bargaining agreement. Every one to three years, the QEA selects a team from the membership represent you in bargaining. The School Committee selects a team of central administrators and School Committee members to represent management.
At the bargaining table, each team proposes changes in the contract. The QEA proposals come from you, the members. When the two teams reach agreements, it must be approved or ratified, by the general membership and by the entire School Committee. When ratified, your salary, benefits, job requirements, work hours and schedule are set for the term of the contract.
